Rodgers, a resident of Koromatangi said that they were tired of crimes which were happening along the road due to the fact that the road was neither tarmacked nor does it have streets lights, making the area prone to crime.

“We have sent letters to the Governor, MCA and Commissioner’s offices concerning the construction of this road and we are yet to receive any response,” added Mr Rodgers.

According to one Mr. Laban Bahati, a resident, self proclaimed Kakamega County Youth Secretary, there was an incident recently where a woman delivered on the said road due to the fact that the motorcycle she had boarded could not make it through the poor road. A story confirmed by fellow protesters.

“They have been singing the same song every time we are approaching General Elections. Despite our continued efforts, this road has remained in this same state. H.E Wycliff Oparanya is not doing a thing about it and we know he is in his last term. We have therefore decided that if this road is not constructed, we will not allow anyone to lie to us and use us again. We can be our own leaders,” Mr. Laban further added.

He went on to criticize the Governor to stop concentrating on National matters and the Western Region leadership wrangles when his job to develop the County is not yet done.

The residents the county government an ultimatum to see to it that the said road is worked on, failure to which, the road will not be operational until their demands are met.
