The former Cabinet Secretary of Interior Dr. Fred Matiang’i yesterday March 7, 2023 presented himself at DCI headquarters for interrogation after being summoned by the investigative agency for investigations.

Matiangi was accompanied by a docket of lawyers that included the MP for Rarieda Otiende Amollo and Danstan Omari.

Speaking after emerging from DCI offices Lawyer Otiende Amollo remarked on his frustrations claiming that there were no investigations and that the action was an act of vendetta that was meant to demean the former CS in the face of the public.

“It is clear that this was not a criminal investigation. This was a vendetta and witch hunt. It is also clear that they were awaiting instructions on what to do with Dr. Matiang’i, ” said Otiende Amollo.

Among the politicians who accompanied Mr Matiangi were former CS Eugene Wamalwa, Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni, and Kisii senator Richard Onyonka.

Matiang’i woes began on February 8, 2023. when reports erupted that alleged law enforcement officers raided and broke into his residence in Karen, Nairobi. However, the DCI distanced themselves from the allegations claiming no officer was deployed to arrest the former CS.

Raila Odinga the party leader for Azimio la Umoja coalition together with other azimio leaders was barred from entering the premises by unidentified police officers. Raila threatened to storm the premises but to no avail.

Matiang’i is currently charged with the publication of false information contrary to section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes act of 2018 among other offenses.
