Governor Jonathan Bii Cheliim on Friday presided over the launch of a process that will see all ECDE teachers in the county employed on permanent and pensionable terms.
Speaking during the event held at Home Craft in Pioneer Eldoret town, Chelilim assured that under his administration, ECDE teachers’ welfare will be well taken care of.
He noted that he understands the challenges they have been through over time and that it was time they are addressed.
“We have said an ECDE teacher must be happy like a university lecturer,” said the County Boss.
The previous administration had committed to employing the teachers on a permanent and pensionable terms but the process was delayed due to what he said was delays in the implementation of the schemes of service for ECDE teachers because of budgetary constraints.
But with the process complete, the teachers have now been confirmed.
Uasin Gishu County had advertised ECDE teachers positions in three categories – graduates, diploma holders and certificate holders out of which 1,287 qualified and are set to be employed.
On his part, Deputy Governor Eng. John Barorot said with improved terms for ECDE teachers, they expect better education for pupils in ECDE centres across the county.
He said the county is woking on ensuring public ECDE offers services that rival those that are currently being offered in private schools.
