Dealing with a know- it -all

Have you ever met or encountered a know it all person? This is a group of people that can be very annoying and irritating. These are the lads that feel they know everything happening around the world, in our villages, or around the campus. They have very strong opinions that they refuse to change even when they are unreasonable.

They always think they are right and their points or opinions or suggestions can never be questioned. They feel superior over others when it comes to reasoning. A discussion with this type of person will make you feel useless, less educated, and of no value. Always acting like experts on every topic even when the evidence and behaviors prove otherwise.

A good example can be drawn from our campuses. Pantomaths are all over on our campuses. They tend to know who is dating who, who’s boyfriend is cheating, which lecturer is rolling with who, who got dumped, and so on.

An attempted to divert the stupid reasoning into some positive vibes will only make your sugar level go up. One needs to be strong and firm to tackle these lads lest you lose your mind.

This group is very good and well trained at making others feel useless. Try having a discussion and I promise you, you won’t conclude. You’ll talk and quarrel over the same thing when it so clear that they are losing but they can’t admit. They don’t believe in loosing even if they are on the wrong side.

If you think you’re dealing with a know-it-all, then you probably are because these groups manifest some characteristics and behaviors that make them think they have all the knowledge they possibly need and they usually expose themselves as know-it-all by making it obvious through their behaviors and actions. Do you think you fall into this group?

Check the following samples:

There is no conversation happening around you that you aren’t aware of!
Do we say you have a nose for news or? Nothing misses or passes you, even on your death bed! You are aware of every conversation going on in every corner of the campus and its environs.
Even when you have no idea of the topic being discussed, you have to add a point

You have answers to everything! Even when you aren’t sure of the answers you’re giving. You have no idea about the discussion yet you want to put your unreasonable points across. You want to fit everywhere, even when it’s so clear that you can’t!
You find difficulty in accepting that sometimes you go wrong with the information.

Accepting that you can’t be right all the time is a big task! You can’t be right every time. It’s that simple. Arguing over some stupid things only makes you a fool.
A more difficult task is admitting that someone knows more than you do!
It pains you Knowing your fellows know more than you do. You can’t always be on the winning side. You aren’t the only educated lad in the world you know.
You always find it easier to correct people’s vocabulary and grammar.

You enjoy it when people make mistakes so that you be correcting every time they slip. It’s in your blood and you can’t avoid no matter what! You derive pleasure from correcting people’s mistakes in grammar.
DEALING WITH A KNOW-IT-ALL
It’s quite a task dealing with these people. One needs to be patient and strong or else you lose your mind. Imagine dating such a person? Your guess is good as mine.
Be armed with your facts

Before entering into a conversation with a know-it-all, have your facts at hand. It will save you from unhealthy and unnecessary discussions. It will also save you precious time.
Choose your battles

Is the topic worth a discussion? Not every response by them needs to be addressed. The best thing you can do is to ignore and move on to the next thing that needs more attention.
Thank them for their suggestions or for showing up and making the discussion or conversation lively

This is another way of dealing with these types of people. Even when your blood is boiling at their stupid and endless questions always thank them in a cultured way to end the discussion or conversation without coming through as jerk.
Avoid them

If all of the above seems not to work. This may sound rude but your health and peace of mind are more important.

Do not invite them out, don’t frequent their places and you can as well leave the area when they are approaching. Remember your peace matters a lot.
